A homebuilder that’s opening its first Dallas-area neighborhoods isn’t looking to rack up thousands of sales. But with its homes selling for more than twice the average cost of a North Texas new house, GFO Home doesn’t have to peddle as many properties to meet its hoped-for revenue. “I’ll be happy if I have a 1% market share,” said Glenn Gehan, who wants to sell $200 million in houses this year in the hot Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth home markets.

The name Gehan is a very familiar one in Dallas. Glenn Gehan co-founded Gehan Homes, now the ninth-largest private homebuilder in the United States, with his father and brothers in 1991. In 2018 Gehan launched GFO Home in Austin and has now expanded the company into Dallas, where they are already seeing massive demand and success.

Homebuilding is a bit of a family tradition for Glenn Gehan. Five generations of his family are represented among the owners of his company GFO Home, from Glenn’s grandfather — who shares his name — to his grandson Andrew.

Home sales are underway in a massive master-planned community in Georgetown. More than 150 lots have already been delivered to homebuilders in Parmer Ranch, the 454-acre development that is set to have 1,000 residential units, 100 acres of commercial development, 47 acres of parkland, and schools near Williams Drive and Ronald Reagan Boulevard. Work started in 2020.

Though cooling a bit, the Central Texas housing market remains on a hot streak, as median home-sales prices hit August records in both the region and within Austin’s city limits. However, in good news for house hunters, the pace of price growth could be slowing a smidge.

GFO Home, a builder of new high-end homes founded by real estate veteran Glenn Gehan, launched in Austin, the hottest real estate marketing in the country, in 2018 and has seen explosive growth and success. The company has already expanded to Dallas.
